| Announcement: New PAH CALUX® for Benzo(a)pyrene and PAH-like compounds | |||||||
| Date: 2010-03-22Source: BDS BDS’ receptor mediated Poly-Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) Responsive Chemically Activated LUciferase eXpression bioassay (PAH CALUX®) is the perfect screening tool for the detection of Benzo(a)pyrene and other PAH-like chemicals. The BDS’ PAH CALUX® bioassay offers the possibility to analyse in just 6 hrs through the 96 well plate luminometer measurement the possibility to screen rapid and in high-through-put-out mode as many samples as you want to be screened. It offers an extremely sensitive tool for PAHs (LOQ of BaP equivalents between 20 and 60 pg/g fat or material). BDS has established an easy sample clean-up / work-up with a small sample size and applicable to a wide variety of matrices. The BDS’ PAH CALUX® bioassay can be used by the Feed/Food Industry testing BaP according to EU guideline 2006/1881/EG, the chemical Industry – testing of active compounds regarding REACH or for governmental monitoring projects for sediments and water for which such in vitro reporter gene assays are already accepted. This new CALUX bioassay has been evaluated in the EU FP6 Project “Face it” during the time period 2005 to 2008: Biological Risk assessment of oils spills – establishment of a rapid alert system In Germany also a first evaluation study of PAH determinations by PAH CALUX® in smoked pork showed the added value of such effect-based analysis for PAHs.
