BDS’ dioxin responsive DR-CALUX^® bioassay is a frontline, practical and cost effective, biologically relevant technology for monitoring the whole of the food chain.

Currently in use in Europe, the USA and the Pacific Rim, BioDetection Systems’ Chemically Activated Luciferase Expression or CALUX^® bioassay uses a dioxin sensitive cell, into which the gene that is responsible for making a firefly glow has been inserted.  If dioxins or dioxin-like chemicals are present, the cells produce light which, in turn, is detected by a detector.

All types of feed ingredients, feeds and food can be analysed, including: 

• Oils and Fats (fish oil, vegetable oils, animal fats and oils, etc)
• Tissues (liver, fat, whole fish, etc)
• Dairy products (milk powder, milk fat, butter)
